Troy’s Distracted While Driving Law Goes Into Effect Today

The Troy Police Department said the city’s newly approved distracted-driving ordinance will take effect today.

The ordinance, approved this month, prohibits sending or receiving texts while driving, using a handheld cell phone and other activities — including eating, grooming, reading or writing — that could distract a driver and result in a failure to safely operate a vehicle.

Violators will face a civil infraction, police have said.

Do you feel this is a fair law?
