Men’s Health Magazine published its list of the drunkest cities this month and some may be surprised at where Detroit ranks. Overall Detroit comes in as the 34th drunkest city in America and while our rank is surprisingly low some of the statistics they reported are not very flattering for our city. We had 52 deaths due to drunk driving and a whopping 56 DUI arrests.

No matter what the statistics a DUI arrest is a scary thing. You’re probably embarrassed that it happend and stressed about the consequences. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions we receive:
Am I going to jail?
If this if your first offense probably not. Most courts order fines, probation, alcohol programs, license sanctions, and community service. If you are a repeat offender, you stand a good chance of going to jail if you don’t get an attorney. If you are charged as a third time offender, you are going to go to jail if you don’t get an attorney. This is nearly guaranteed.
Will I lose my license?
First time offenders risk losing their license for 30 days, with an additional 150 days of restricted driving privileges. If a plea to impaired driving is agreed upon with the prosecutor, the driver’s license is not suspended at all, but it is restricted for 90 days.
How much will this cost me?
A first offense usually costs between $300 and $500 in fines, plus court costs ranging from $200 to $1000 plus reimbursements to the police, probation, oversight fees and other mandatory fees.
Do I need an attorney?
No you do not need an attorney, but it would probably be a good idea to have one. Their is a wide variety of outcomes with a DUI case and n attorney can offer you the best defense and get you the best possible sentence.
